The mistakes proved to be too much for Community R-6 on Thursday.

The Trojans lost 11-6 at home to Central Activities Conference rival and Class 1 No. 7 Cairo after allowing eight unearned runs and eight runs in the final three innings.

Cairo (11-3, 6-1 CAC) struck early with three runs in the first inning, fouling off pitches and increasing Mason Carroll's pitch count until he had to come out after five innings (nine strikeouts, eight hits and three earned runs out of seven total). The Bearcats took advantage of three infield errors to score four runs in the fifth inning.

Eli Johnson went 2-for-3 with two RBI for Community (9-6, 4-2 CAC), a hit by pitch and an intentional walk, Lane Carter was 3-for-4 and Caden Thomas had a RBI.

Logan Hughes pitched 6 2/3 innings for Cairo with 11 hits, six runs (two earned), four strikeouts and three walks.
