The strikeouts kept piling up for Community R-6 on Friday at home.

The Trojan hitters struck out 16 times in a 5-3 loss to Elsberry in what is the second-most times Community's offense has struck in head coach Joel Krato's tenure. Community (3-4) had the bases loaded in four straight innings and were retired 13 straight times via strikeout during that stretch of the game. Elsberry (2-6) took a 4-0 lead after scoring four runs in the third inning but then Community fought within one run on Matthew Utterback's RBI bunt double in the fourth inning and Houston Hogan's two-RBI bunt single in the fifth inning. Kyler Swaim pitched 6 2/3 innings for the Trojans with six hits, four earned runs, four strikeouts and four walks. Colin Phillips had 10 strikeouts in four innings for Elsberry and Tanner Holland struck out six in three innings as the Indians pitchers combined to allow five hits.

Community plays at Monroe City (3-4) at 5 p.m. Monday.
