Community R-6 was in high spirits on Tuesday night.
That's because the Trojans walked off Central Activities Conference foe New Franklin 2-1 on a RBI infield single by Lane Carter (2-for-3) for the team's first victory at home and first conference victory this season. Community (5-6, 1-2 CAC) had dropped five previous home games, including two of its ugliest losses of the season in their prior two games 16-7 to conference foe Sturgeon and 17-4 to Hermann. New Franklin (7-6, 2-3 CAC) outhit Community 8-4 and held a 1-0 lead from the third through the fifth inning until the Trojans tied the game at 1 in the sixth inning on Houston Hogan's ground ball that turned into an infield error and two-out run. Cooper Rohan struck out three batters to cancel out a New Franklin bases-loaded, no-out situation in the top half of the inning. Rohan finished with nine strikeouts in seven innings along with eight hits, one earned run and one walk. Three Trojan batters were hit by pitches, including two in the seventh inning before Carter's game-winning RBI. Lane Hackman pitched 6 1/3 innings for the Bulldogs with four strikeouts, three hits, two walks and one unearned run.
Community finishes this four-game homestand at 5 p.m. Monday against Louisiana (2-7).
