Posted

Community R-6 didn't have much rest between conference baseball games.

The Trojans beat Central Activities Conference foe and Class 1 No. 8 Cairo 4-1 on the road Friday night before beating Madison 14-3 on Saturday afternoon at Mexico High School's turf field (due to previous weather postponements). Community (8-7, 3-3 CAC) scored 12 runs in the final three innings of what was a scoreless game with Madison (2-12, 0-5 CAC) through two innings. Nik Crider had three RBIs on two doubles along with pitching five innings with six strikeouts, five hits, four walks and two earned runs. Drake Welch had two RBIs and a double, Kaiden Erdel had two RBIs, and Crider, Cooper Rohan and Ean Johnson each scored three runs.

Community had a better start the previous night at Cairo (9-5, 4-3 CAC) by scoring all four of its runs in the first two innings, including three in the first. The Trojans were hit by four pitches and walked twice in the first inning to give them five hit batsmen and eight walks against Cairo pitching. Rohan struck out 11 and allowed one unearned run on three hits and two walks in seven innings, and Lane Carter and Houston Hogan each had one RBI.

Community hosts North Shelby (8-5) at 5 p.m. Monday.
