Just before 9:30 a.m., a Mexico Public Safety officer saw a vehicle at the intersection of Agricultural and East Liberty, and the vehicle was known to be driven by Fountain, whom the officer knew to have outstanding arrest warrants through Audrain County, the release stated. The officer pulled into a parking area to see the driver as the vehicle passed. Fountain, who was driving, apparently saw this and “began driving recklessly down East Liberty Street, passing other vehicles illegally,” the release stated.
The MPSD officer pursued the vehicle for about eight blocks before Fountain stopped the vehicle and ran. A front seat passenger, McIlhatton, also ran. Officers caught both of the men within about a block. Both were processed at MPSD and taken to the Audrain County Jail.
Fountain was charged with driving while revoked, resisting arrest, unlawful possession of a firearm and numerous traffic offenses, the release stated. McIlhatton was charged with resisting arrest and delivery of a controlled substance (methamphetamine).
