Van-Far capped a special night on Friday with a special win. The Indians (3-4) defeated Class 1 District 2 leader Crystal City (5-2), who received votes in the most recent Class 1 poll, 14-8 to give them their first back-to-back wins since the 2018 season when they also won three games. Friday night was also Homecoming and the celebration of the first district championship football team in 1992. Gage Gibson was crowned the Homecoming King along with Queen Carmen Wilburn and he caught the 79-yard touchdown pass from Nikos Connaway, who ran for a 54-yard touchdown and intercepted a pass in the final minutes, with almost a minute left.

“I was like, ‘Gage, go deep,’” Connaway said. “I chucked it and Gage came down with it like I knew he would. I saw (the defender) fall and I was like, ‘You got it.’ I just started running trying to chase Gage.”
