Van-Far golf knows its goals are lofty but also achievable.
The Indians are wrapping up their regular season before districts on May 2 at Heritage Hills Golf Course in Moberly. They hope to finish in the top two so they can qualify their full team.
Head coach Pat Connaway said that seems doable based on the great start Van-Far had this season. It won its first four meets before finishing high in two tournaments at Palmyra and Centralia.
“We got off to a really good start to the year, but have hit some bumps in the road and have been struggling with team consistency,” Connaway said. “We need to cut out the big mistakes, take our bogey and move on. Unfortunately, lately, we have been taking big numbers on holes and killing our total team scores. To achieve these goals, we need to eliminate those things.”
Van-Far finished fifth at the Palmyra Invitational on April 10 and then was third April 15 in the Centralia Invitational, which Connaway said was the team’s best outing of the season. The Indians were third behind Centralia and Palmyra, and returning state qualifier Pacey Reading won the individual competition.
“Pacey has been our most consistent and best scorer all year,” Connaway said. “He has been the medalist several times this year.”
