A Mexico resident’s yard waste burning caused a fire over the weekend that required Mexico Public Safety Department crews to extinguish the blaze, a MDPS news release stated.
There were no injuries from the incident.
At 9:25 p.m. Saturday, MPSD personnel responded to the 1300 block of Curtis Street regarding a grass fire. Responding personnel learned a resident had been burning yard waste earlier in the day and was unaware that “embers had reached some bushes along a neighbor’s privacy fence. The embers began burning under the bushes after the resident left his fire and was eventually noticed by a passerby,” the release stated.
MPSD crews extinguished the fire before the fence or any personal property could be damaged.
