Young Farmers' Truck and Tractor Pull returns to Mexico

Posted

It’s officially pulling season, which means the Mexico Young Farmers are as busy in the fields as they are at the tracks.

The Mexico Young Farmers Truck and Tractor Pull will be returning to the Audrain County 4-H Center on Saturday. Gates open at 4 p.m. and pulling starts at 6 p.m.

Kyle Roth, a Mexico Young Farmer member, said Saturday’s pull will feature 30 diesel trucks, 50 pro stocks and so much more.

“We’ve changed it up a bit,” he said.

Excalibur Pulling will not be returning, but 4x4 Pro Stock Trucks, a class that hasn’t been a part of Mexico’s pull for over a decade, will be.

This year’s event features 11 classes from the Pro Pulling League:

• Pro Modified 4WD Trucks

• Limited Mini Rods

• Light Limited Super Stock Tractors

• Pro Farm Tractors

• 85 Limited Pro Stock Tractors

• Pro Street Diesel Trucks

• 95 Limited Pro Stock Tractors

• Limited Pro Diesel Trucks

• 4x4 Pro Stock Trucks

• 5.0 Pro Stock Tractors

• Light Pro Stock Tractors

Roth added that Light Pro Stock Tractors is also a relatively new class to the area.

When organizing the FFA Truck and Tractor Pull, Roth worried about muddy tracks, but a recent heat wave has made the tracks way too dry. So on Sunday, the young farmers started pouring water on the tracks.

“We’re probably going to put about 10,000 gallons of water on every night,” Roth said.

Last September, the Young Farmers battled similar track issues, and Roth said the 40,000 gallons they used then wasn’t nearly enough. Thankfully, he added, Next Gen Agronomy Solutions is donating the water.

With an event as big as the Mexico Young Farmers Truck and Tractor Pull, it’s all hands on deck and a number of local organizations and businesses pitch in to help. The Audrain County Cattlemen’s Association will be manning the grill and serving dinner again this year.

Tickets are $25 per person at the gate and children younger than 12 are free. All proceeds will go to the Mexico Young Farmers, Mexico Young Farmers Scholarship Fund, Mexico FFA Chapter, Audrain County Cattlemen’s Association, and the Audrain County 4-H Fair Grounds.
