If you ever find yourself approximately five thousand miles away, overseas in Europe, the last thing you may expect to see is something on display from the Audrain County Sheriff's Department. However that is exactly what you will see at the U.S. Sheriff's Museum in Austria.
"The lady that runs the museum is friends with a Boone County Deputy. She was in the United States over the summer. I was going through my closet and noticed my old sergeant’s uniform. It was no longer serviceable due to having a few holes, and stains, so I decided to donate it to her to put in the museum," said Audrain County Sheriff Matt Oller.
The lady who runs the museum is Barbara Rietzler, she is part of the Austrian law enforcement system.
"During my recent U.S. trip, I had the opportunity to meet Sheriff Matt Oller of the Audrain County Sheriff's Office (Missouri). Sheriff Oller has been in office since 2017. He donated his old sergeant uniform to our museum. Thank you Sheriff Oller. Audrain County in Missouri was founded in 1836 and named after James Hunter Audrain, a militia colonel who served in the War of 1812," wrote Rietzler.
According to the their website the museum offers interested people a small insight into the American police system. The museum contains uniforms, chest and cloth badges, handcuffs, historical pictures, license plates and other police items from the Wild West, the 20th century and the present.
