It will be the perfect mix: Dessert and a welcome to spring, all while acknowledging the efforts of some of the folks who help keep the Audrain County Historical Society rolling.
The society will host its annual membership meeting. Thursday, April 28 at Graceland Museum, 501 S. Muldrow. Social hour and snacking begins at 6 p.m. and the business meeting starts at 6:30.
“This year we going to have a dessert bar in place of our usual dinner,” said executive director Lori Pratt. “We hope this works well and leaves your evening open to other things, like supper, homework with the kids and catching up on your favorite show.”
RSVPs are appreciated and can be made by calling 573-581-3910.
Another part of the event will be the presentation of awards.
“Every year we honor those who have helped the Society prosper and grow,” said Pratt.
Honorees this year include:
With spring in full swing, it’s a good opportunity to catch up on membership dues. The society continues to strive to keep Audrain County’s history alive and vibrant and continuing that mission is largely reliant on community support.
“It’s very affordable,” said Pratt.
Family memberships are $30 a year; individual, $20; and business memberships are also available.
And the desserts? They’ll be provided by the museum staff and volunteers, including the tasty treats whipped up by Janice Robison, who is well-known for her desserts.
The museum is open from 12-4 p.m. Wednesday-Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Maintaining regular hours is a source of pride for the museum, despite the challenges of COVID that have impacted other historic museums’ operation. Pratt encourages people to stop by and see what the museum has to offer.
“Come through the front door like you own the place,” Pratt said with a laugh.
The Graceland grounds are beautiful in spring - and year ‘round, and the April 28 meeting and celebration will provide a good time for folks to catch up on all it has to offer.
