The Mexico chapter of Altrusa International donated differing amounts to 18 local organizations in a ceremony earlier this year, held in the Audrain County Courthouse lobby and socially distanced.
Altrusa is a service organization that raises funds and funnels those resources to three main areas of concern. These are literacy, general community service and education – the group awards two $2,500 scholarships each year.
At the ceremony, they presented checks to Anointed Life Saving Ministries to help initiate a reading program and St. Joseph School to help expand a reading program.
Education-related donations went to the St. Brendan School to purchase an online subscription to support distance learning, to the YMCA for a Youth & Government scholarship, to Bright Futures for general student needs and to Clearing the Path, which aids in tuition for Mexico High School students taking dual credits.
Community service donations helped out the Audrain County Shelter Resource Coalition, CMCA, the CT School, Shop with a Cop, The Help Center and Dream Factory.
Funds went to the St. Vincent DePaul to buy beds for children, the Children’s Emergency Fund to buy lunch and items for children, the Food Bank for their Audrain Buddy Pack Program, Faith Maternity Care to organize a Baby Boutique, ACCIS toward the purchase of a minivan and the Mexico Senior Center for their nutrition program.
