Arthur “Paul” Meyer, age 86, of Columbia, passed away on Saturday, July 29, 2023, at his home. He spent his final years at The Village of Bedford Walk where he planned and played the piano for activities with the other residents. He was born on September 18, 1936, in Auxvasse, Missouri, the son of Arthur and Bernice (Hape) Meyer, Sr.

Paul was born and raised in Auxvasse, Missouri. He graduated from Auxvasse High School, class of 1954. He attended Sanford-Brown Business College in St. Louis, and International Data Processing Institute in St. Louis. He also attended Missouri School of Religion in the 1970’s getting various certificates.

He married Billie Jean Wilson on August 18, 1957, and they were married for 56 years at the time of her passing.

Paul’s career began at Consolidated Forwarding Company, Inc. in St. Louis as a Computer Operator. He went on to become a computer programmer with the University of Missouri, Radiology Department for 10 years, as well as the State of Missouri for 13 years. After retiring from the State, he continued to work part-time for Pearson Professional Center.

Paul was a man of God and was very active in the church community throughout his life. He was raised in the Auxvasse Christian Church, Disciples of Christ. He became a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church in St. Louis in the 1950’s, serving as the Education Coordinator; a member of the Auxvasse Presbyterian Church in the 1960’s where he was an elder, treasurer and played piano. He was the pastor of Auxvasse Christian Church in the 1970’s where he became a licensed lay minister, serving rural churches in the area for over 15 years. Paul had currently been a member of the Broadway Christian Church in Columbia for the past 17 years at the time of his passing. At Broadway Christian Church he served as an elder Liturgist, played piano, sang in the Chancel Choir, and was a member of the 60 + club.

He was also very active in the community. Paul volunteered at the Wardrobe, and at the Show-Me State Senior Games and served on the Board for Columbia Area Older Adults Services. He was proud of the fact that while he served as Mayor for the town of Auxvasse, he was a part of the charter group that planned, organized, and developed the Auxvasse Senior Citizens Apartment Complex in the 1960’s. He was also a member of the Auxvasse Jaycees and Auxvasse Lions Club.

Paul was a Cardinals fan from a young age. He was also a Chiefs fan and enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening, and bird watching. He coached baseball and softball for his children growing up. Paul loved the piano and would compose and research music before he played and composed. But the biggest joy in his life was spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He never missed a game or activity!
