Christmas artwork has been on display at the Mexico Area Chamber of Commerce Vault Gallery, located in the chamber office, 100 W. Jackson St., on the courthouse square. The show has been held throughout the month and will continue through the end of the year.
The seasonal pieces are the creations of the folks at Audrain Developmental Disability Services (ADDS). ADDS is a non-profit organization that was established in 1978 and administers funding authorized through Senate Bill 40 – state legislation passed in 1969 that allows counties to levy a tax for funds to be used for services for individuals with a developmental disability as determined by the Missouri Department of Mental Health – Division of Developmental Disabilities. The disability must have occurred before age 22, with the expectation that the disability is life-long and the individual must be substantially limited in their ability to function independently. ADDS services are designed to create appropriate options that address the individual needs of each person served while encouraging growth and social interaction in the Audrain County community and the surrounding area.
ADDS provides services and resources for individuals with developmental disabilities who live in and around Audrain County. We believe that individuals with developmental disabilities have the right to self-determination and to lead a life with quality and to have opportunities for community inclusion. As of 2021, ADDS provides services for approximately 189 individuals within Audrain County. The agency currently supports three residential group homes - Breckenridge Heights, CT Loyd Apartments, and Harvey House; three independent supported living homes, Abat, Hazel Place, and Jefferson Road, Fieldcrest Community Living, Natural Homes supports, Day Training Program, and Target Case Management.
The art show is open to the public; there is no cost to visit.
Additionally The Children’s Therapy School shared artwork in the lobby for the week of the parade.
