The Auxvasse Lions Club is hosting a Winston Churchill/Churchill Museum movie night on Thursday, Aug. 29 at 6:30 p.m.
Auxvasse Lions member Warren M. Hollrah, Westminster College alumnus and former staff member of America's National Churchill Museum, will present the program. The program will include some short films on Sir Winston L. S. Churchill (1874-1965) and information on the museum. The 150th anniversary of Churchill's birth is Nov. 30, and the world is celebrating this anniversary throughout 2024. Churchill gave his “Sinews of Peace” (Iron Curtain) speech at Westminster College on March 5, 1946. President John Kennedy made Sir Winston L.S. Churchill an honorary citizen of the US on April 9, 1963. The first day issue of the 5 cent US Postal stamp “Winston Churchill” was in Fulton, on May 13, 1965. The Winston Churchill Memorial & Library (now America's National Churchill Museum), Westminster College, Fulton, MO was dedicated in May, 1969.
This informative program will be held at the Grand Prairie Baptist Church, located at the intersection of Main and Harrison streets in downtown Auxvasse. This event is free and open to the public.
