The Mexico Bulldogs steamrolled Fulton 7-1 last Wednesday, thanks in part to a five-run first inning. Daeye Miller, Tyler Thoenen and Jack Wilburn delivered singles in the first and Brock Smythe, a double.
Wilburn (2-for-3), Thoenen (2-for-4), Miller (2-for-4); and Andrew Runge (2-for-4) each had multiple-hit performances. Quayvon Belcher had two steals and the team had seven. And in the field, the Bulldogs were sharp, committing no errors. Wilburn picked up the win.
Mexico’s runs came in the first two innings of the contest.
Monday, the Bulldogs defeated North Callaway 11-4. The Thunderbirds led 2-0 after one inning, but the Bulldogs rallied with a six-run fourth.
Both teams had 12 hits. Multiple hit games were turned in by Runge (2-for-5), Miller (2-for-3); Thoenen (2-for-3); and Tristan Player (2-for-4). Playter had four RBI to lead the team.
Wilburn picked up the win, allowing three runs on nine hits in five innings. He struck out three and walked none. Runge got the save, throwing two innings in relief.
Davis Woods got the start for the Thunderbirds, allowing seven runs on eight hits while striking out three.
The Bulldogs are 8-2 following the win. This week should be a busy one with games slated at Marshall Tuesday (results not available at press time), Centralia today (Wednesday); and at home against Hallsville Friday at 5 p.m.
