On Wednesday, Sept. 13, at approximately 3:08 p.m., the Mexico Public Safety Department (MPSD) responded to the area of W Boulevard and Dogwood in reference to a juvenile that had been hit by a vehicle. Responding personnel found that a 9-year-old female was walking home from school when she crossed the road in front of a 1995 GMC being driven westbound by Christina Karkut, age 33 of Mexico. Karkut attempted to stop but could not avoid a minor collision. The juvenile was taken to MU Urgent Care by a parent, where her injuries were treated and she was released. Pedestrians and drivers are reminded to watch out for each other, especially just before and after school. Crosswalks should be used when possible and school zone speed limits should be obeyed.
