Cliff Hinten, 86, of Mexico, passed away at 1:57 a.m. Monday, October 16, 2023, at Boone Hospital in Columbia.

Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thurs., Oct. 19, at Pickering Funeral Home. A private family burial will follow at Benton City Cemetery.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 5 – 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Cliff was born March 10, 1937, in Thompson.  He was the son of Earl and Mabel (Riddle) Hinten. On November 19, 1983, in Kirksville, he married Vicki Barlow who survives at the home.

Cliff enjoyed camping and fishing and he was an avid sports fan. His teams were the Cubs, the Bears, and the Bulls. The family urges you to honor Cliff’s request of wearing your favorite sports attire to his funeral. There will be a time for sharing stories during his funeral.

He was very proud that he was able to overcome alcohol addiction 47 years ago. Over the years he helped mentor and support others during their recovery.

In addition to his wife Vicki, survivors include three sons, Clifford Hinten Jr., of Arkansas, Josh Hinten (Chrystal), of Wellsville, and Jeremiah Hinten, of Joplin;  three daughters, Sherry Sumpter (Terry), of Williamsburg, Dotty Ladner, of Mississippi, and Misty Smith, of Mexico; one sister, Jessie Exendine, of Mexico; 16 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren, five great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Robert “Bob” Hinten; and four grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be given to Children’s Therapy and Early Education School, or to the Benton City Cemetery. They may be sent in care of Pickering Funeral Home, 403 N. Western, Mexico, MO 65265.
