Community dedicates batting cage

Posted

On Monday, April 12, the Community R-6 Athletic Booster Club honored two men who have made a significant contribution to the Community R-VI athletic program by dedicating its newly constructed batting cage in their honor.

Those people are retired Trojans baseball, basketball, softball, and PE coach Jim Brink and retired groundskeeper and custodian Mac McGrew.

Coach Brink started with the District in 1991, working as a high school PE coach, athletic director, basketball coach, softball coach, and baseball coach during his time at Community R-VI, taking his boys baseball and basketball teams all the way to a Final Four appearance in 2001 and 2002, respectively.

Mac McGrew served the district as a groundskeeper and custodian for 34 years. He worked tirelessly on many occasions to not only maintain our ball field, but get it ready to play after unfavorable weather. Along with his service to the district, Mac worked with many area youth, coaching summer baseball teams and basketball youth league teams.

Jim and Mac continue to serve the area as MSHSAA officials for softball, baseball, and basketball, often working as a team.

The R-6 booster club appreciates the contribution they have made over the years in the lives of our student athletes and their service to the district, athletic program, and the community.
