Lady Trojans hold on for back-and-forth 53-49 win at Pilot Grove
The Community R-6 girls continue to impress late in games.
That was the impression from head coach Bob Curtis as the Lady Trojans won 53-49 on Friday at Central Activities Conference foe Pilot Grove (8-12, 2-3 CAC). After allowing 15 points in the first half to senior Pilot Grove standout Emma Sleeper, Community (14-8, 5-2 CAC) only allowed her to score five points in the second half.
“We devised a plan at halftime to play her man-to-man and surround the rim with help on the drive,” Curtis said. “The girls executed this box and 1 to perfection.”
Kylie Brooks led Community with 13 points and 12 rebounds, Alyssa Beamer had 10 points, Aaliyah Welch finished with eight points, and Brooklynn Glasgow and Peyton Beamer each had seven points.
Carroll deals with early fouls, Community R-6 boys lose at Pilot Grove 72-24
Mason Carroll and the Community R-6 boys couldn’t find the basket on Friday.
The Trojans lost 72-24 at Central Activities Conference foe Pilot Grove (12-9, 3-2 CAC). Reigning all-conference player Carroll only had six points, partly because he picked two fouls in the first 30 seconds, and Community (4-17, 2-5 CAC) only scored one point in the third quarter.
“They are fast and can move the ball up and down the court well and made all of their shots,” head coach Kody Asquith said. “We turned the ball over a lot, but we were also taking a lot of shots, they just didn't seem to fall in like we had hoped.”
