The Community R-6 girls fought to slim margins late in Saturday's Sturgeon Tournament championship game against Salisbury but fell short 47-39. Sarah Angel led the Lady Trojans with 19 points and three steals, Aaliyah Welch followed with six points, and Olivia Kuda had 12 rebounds. Salisbury's Joslynn Brown and Julia Sloan finished with 17 and 12 rebounds, respectively.
The Trojans' consolation game against Paris slipped away late as Paris knocked down 10-of-12 free throws in the fourth quarter. Mason Carroll led Community with 15 points and seven rebounds, Gavin Allen followed with 13 points, six rebounds and three blocks, and Tucker Robnett had seven points and six rebounds. Mason Edwards led Paris with 14 points and three 3-pointers.
