The Lady Trojans’ offense couldn’t scratch across runs most of Thursday.
The No. 3 Community R-6’s district game against No. 2 and state-ranked Silex was postponed two consecutive days this week, but the Lady Trojans finally got on the field, only to lose 6-2 after compiling three hits. Community’s season ends at 12-13 following its second loss of the season to the Lady Owls, with the first being a 13-3 defeat on Sept. 8.
The Lady Trojans didn’t score their runs until the sixth inning, when Olivia Schafer and Rylee Rafferty reached on errors that cut Silex’s lead to 4-2 at the time. Olivia Kuda picked up the Lady Trojans’ final hit in the game earlier in the inning, which was a single after Brooklynn Glasgow and Jocelyn Curtis each recorded doubles. Paige Painter lasted all six innings for Community, allowing four earned runs on nine hits and two walks.
Silex (17-10) had Karlie Ellis’ pitching performance — three hits and three hit batsmen in seven innings — to rely on as well as two RBI from Abagail Mooney and a home run by Sara Grateke. The Lady Owls scored two runs in the first inning after Community failed to score on a bases-loaded threat in the top half of the inning that was set up by a Glasgow double and two hit batsmen.
