David Martin Bernhart, Sr.

David Martin Bernhart, Sr., 89, of Mexico, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Aug. 25, 2022, at The Neighborhoods by Tiger Place in Columbia.

A mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug.30, at St. Brendan Catholic Church with Fr. David Veit officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at St. Brendan Cemetery.

A Rosary will be recited at 8:45 a.m. on Tuesday, at Arnold Funeral Home followed by a visitation until 10:45 a.m.

David was born on Nov. 12, 1932 in Milwaukee, Wis., the son of Ervin L. and Edith H. (Zimmerman) Bernhart, M.D. On June 14, 1958 in San Antonio, Texas, he married Anna Louise Heusinger.

Mr. Bernhart was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He graduated from Marquette University and had worked for Allmerica Financial Group as a life insurance agent.

David was a devout member of St. Brendan Catholic Church, where he served as a Eucharistic minister and minister to the sick. He was very involved within the church throughout his life, both here in Mexico and in Denver.

Survivors include his wife, Anna Louise Bernhart of the home; five children: David Martin Bernhart, Jr. of Denver, Colorado; Ervin Michael Bernhart (Laurine Garrity) of San Francisco, Calif.; Gregory Thomas (Anne) Bernhart of Westhampton, N.Y.; Valine Marie (Peter) Perll of Mexico, and Jeanine Edith Bernhart of Los Angeles, Calif.; 12 grandchildren, Kathyrn (Alex) Salmons, Michael Perll, Anna Perll, Vincent Perll, James Perll, Nicole Bernhart, Anne Marie Bernhart, Catherine Bernhart, Alex Bernhart, Chris Bernhart (Ana Duarte), Victoria Bernhart, and Anessa Bernhart; two great-grandchildren, Caroline and Charlotte Salmons; and one sister, Susan Langenberger of Arizona.

Mr. Bernhart was preceded in death by his parents, Ervin L. and Edith H. (Zimmerman) Bernhart, M.D; one brother, John Bernhart; and two sisters, Edith Ann Bergs and Mary Johnson.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Brendan Catholic Church. They may be sent in care of Arnold Funeral Home, 425 S. Jefferson, Mexico, MO 65265.
