Ellen “Jean” Cutforth

Ellen “Jean” Cutforth, 85, passed away December 4, 2023, at Westbury Assisted Living Center in Columbia,  Mo.

Jean was born September 6, 1938, in La Harpe, Ill., to Ellen and Floyd Bennett. She was a 1956 graduate of La Harpe High School and continued her education at Gem City Business College in Quincy, Ill. After graduation from college, she worked as an Executive Assistant to the President of a local bank.

On January 23, 1960, she married Jack Cutforth in Quincy, Ill.

The family moved to Fairfield, Ill., when Jack started as a salesman with Morton Buildings. In 1967, the family transferred to Mexico.

Jean was very devoted to her family and involved in all their activities. Jack and Jean purchased land south of Mexico and began raising cattle and farming. Once the kids joined 4-H, summers were spent at cattle shows where they made many friends. After retiring from farming, Jean helped her husband start Concrete Pier Systems and acted as office manager for the successful business.

Jean is survived by one son, Steve (Kelley) Cutforth of Centralia, and one daughter, Diane (Jerry) Temmen of Wardsville; five grandchildren: Michael (Rebekah) Kropf, Andrew Cutforth, Adam (Kayla) Kehl, Ashley Temmen, and Tyler Temmen; seven great-grandchildren: Grant, Noah, Natalie, Brady, Josephine, Oliver, and Lane; sisters, Martha Reed and Lois Collins; brother-in-law, Richard Kramer; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack, parents, one infant sister, two infant brothers, sister, Luella Kramer; and two brothers-in-law, Robert Reed and Wesley Collins.

Private Family Services will be held under the direction of Arnold Funeral Home in Mexico.
