GFWC Mexico Women’s Club met on Jan. 13, at the YMCA Café with President Gailyn Fennewald presiding. The meeting was hosted by members of the Environment Committee: Maureen Hacker, Winnie Runge, Laura Pitts, and Gailyn Fennewald.
Their project was the donation of pet supplies and pet toys to be given to Pet Pals. The program was given by Tammy Gibbons, a volunteer with Pet Pals. This organization is volunteer driven and exists to provide foster families for surrendered or rescued pets until they can be adopted. The animals are provided necessary medical care and vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered if needed. The organization spent over $40,000 in vet care the previous year. Their funds are generated with adoption fees and fundraising. Members were encouraged to apply to become foster families.
Members had a fun Christmas party for the residents of Missouri Girl’s Town in December. The next visit will be in February for a Valentine’s party. Donations were collected for Missouri Girls’ Town, Our Safe Place and National Organ Donor Association. Snacks and small gift items were also donated to be used by residents of Teal Lake Assisted Living. Connie Robly delivered a birthday cake to the Arbors for the residents to enjoy. Plans are being made for the club’s Spring fundraiser, selling geraniums. Members appreciate the community’s support of this fundraiser. The proceeds help support the many philanthropic endeavors of the club. The next meeting will be Monday, Feb. 10 at 12:30 p.m. at the YMCA.
