GOLF ROUNDUP: Mexico tees off this season at Arthur Hills

Mexico boys golf started its season close to home.

The Bulldogs hosted a quad March 22 at Arthur Hills against Centralia, Hannibal and Louisiana, finishing third with a score of 197. Aidan Knipfel owned the third-best score of 44 to tie Centralia’s Cullen Bennett.

Hannibal won the quad with a score of 174 and had the top two individual finishers of Kyle Locke at 38 and Quinn Thomas at 40.

Behind Knipfel, Jacob Stephens shot a 48, Landon Love had a 49, Cooper Orr shot a 56 and Mac Haag had a 59.

North Callaway starts year at Tolton Invitational

The North Callaway boys began its season amongst numerous tough competition.

On March 20, the Thunderbirds finished 16th out of 19 teams at the Tolton Invitational with a score of 420. In the 18-hole event, Davis Althiser was the lone Thunderbird below 100 by shooting a 94.

St. Dominic won the event with a score of 318 and had the top two individual scores of 75 and 78, which were shot by Matt Leap and Colin Aubuchon, respectively.

Behind Althiser, Connor Green finished with a 100, Tyler Huddleston and Jacob Flynn each shot a 113, and Johnny Brown had a 135.

Centralia finishes as runner-up in Mexico quad, 13th at Tolton

The Centralia boys golfers began their season not too long ago.

The Panthers finished 13th out of 19 teams at the Tolton Invitational on March 20 prior to being the runner-up two days later in a Mexico quad at Arthur Hills involving Mexico, Hannibal and Louisiana.

In the quad, Centralia finished with a team score of 195, which was just ahead of Mexico’s 197 and behind Hannibal’s 174. Cullen Bennett owned the top individual score for Centralia at 44, which was good for third-best with Mexico’s Aiden Knipfel.

Hannibal’s Kyle Locke was the medalist with a top score of 38.

At Tolton, Centralia’s top score was 89 by Cullen Bennett in the 18-hole event. Travis Brooks was behind him with a 96, Josh Bowne had a 100 and Tyler Hawkins shot a 106.

Paris finishes third in Salisbury meet

The Paris boys had a solid start to their season.

The Coyotes finished third out of five teams Thursday at a meet in Salisbury involving the host Panthers, Moberly, Fayette and New Bloomfield.
Paris finished with a team score of 192, which was behind runner-up Moberly’s 176 and winner Salisbury’s 157, who had the two top individual scores of 36 and 39 by Nolan Gordon and Elliot Carter, respectively.

Donald Jones was the Coyotes’ best individual golfer after she shot a fifth-best score of 43, tying with two Moberly golfers. Evin Reichmann finished behind Jones and was ninth overall with a score of 45, Reid Ragsdale owned a 51, Mason Edwards shot a 53, and Garrett Henry finished with a 54.
