Holiday mailing and shipping deadlines outlined by USPS

The United States Postal Service is experiencing the busiest mailing, shipping, and delivery weeks of the year.

"During the holiday season the Mexico Post Office on some days we handle up to 2,000 packages per day. Normally we handle 1,200 packages per day," said Rick Ayers, Postmaster at the Mexico USPS office.

On Christmas, USPS stores countrywide will be closed with no delivery. However, due to huge volumes of shipping in the lead-up to Christmas, some USPS offices will remain the two previous Sundays to handle the volume of shipments. The Mexico office will deliver packages on the Sundays, however the window will not be open.

The USPS says new equipment and improvements have expanded the package processing capacity to 60 million packages a day. Ayers says "We can track every package with a barcode and can tell exactly to the point where the carrier delivers it. We are still looking to hire four substitute rural carriers. People can apply at USPS.com/career opportunities. We are fully staffed with clerks and City carriers."

Customers are encouraged to follow the 2022 Holiday Shipping Deadlines to make sure packages and mail arrive on time.
