The first Central Missouri Honor Flight for 2023, Flight #66, May 30th carried 98 veterans to visits their memorials in Washington, D.C. Included on this flight were 95 Vietnam and three Korean War veterans. There were several from the Ledgerland area.
They had beautiful weather for departing at 1:30 a.m. in three buses from the Courtyard Marriott in Columbia to board the plane in St. Louis and returning at 9:30 p.m. for “Homecoming” activities. It was a fast, fun-filled day that they will never forget. The day had near perfect weather in D.C.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol and other law enforcement officers plus 150 Central Missouri Honor Flight Riders escorted CMHF Flight #66 from Kingdom City to the Marriott in Columbia.
Sunday, June 11th, the veterans and their guests returned to the Courtyard Marriott for a “Welcome Home” party. A special highlight was a 14 year old Boy Scout from Columbia working on his Eagle Scout project gave each CMHF Flight # 66 Veteran a personalized wood plaque. He spoke to the group and explained why and how he was a able to complete this project. This project was his idea and was completed with assistance from his scout troop and several businesses.
