One of Mexico's parks will be getting a name change after Monday's, Mexico City Council meeting.
Members of the Mexico City Council-Steve Haag, Chris Williams, Chris Miller, Vicki Briggs and Ayanna Shivers all voted in favor of changing Mexico's Garfield Park to Tyronn Lue Park.A crowd full of people gathered in the Council Chambers of the Mexico City Hall to see the vote.
One person in attendance was Tyronn's mom, Kim Lue. Speaking exclusively with the Mexico Ledger after the meeting she said "It is overwhelming. I am appreciative they considered him. We don't take it for granted. Tyronn loves Mexico, and I hope he keeps on loving Mexico. I will call him tonight and let him know and find out when he can come back for the official name changing ceremony"Tyronn is a Mexico native, an NBA championship winning coach, and the head coach of the Los Angeles Clippers.
City of Mexico Parks and Recreation Director Chad Shoemaker said "The next step is getting signs made. We will change over written and online materials to reflect the name change."
The City of Mexico will plan with the Lue family to set a date for a name changing ceremony.
