Janet Motley Shelly 68, of Midlothian, Va., passed away peacefully on October 27th after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Daughter of late Roger and Mildred Motley of Laddonia,; preceded in death by brother James Motley; survived by husband of 39 years Ray Shelly, sister Joyce (Larry) Ashlock, stepson Adam Shelly, Nephews Christian (April) & Drew (Julianne) Ashlock, goddaughter Daniella (Jason) Delozier and many great nieces and nephews.
Janet graduated from Community R-VI High School and the University of Missouri School of Journalism. She started her career at The Daily Oklahoman Newspaper. She was a dedicated English teacher in the Chesterfield County Virginia Schools. She continued her love of education working with McDougal Littell.
Janet dedicated her life to helping others and living by Christian principles. She volunteered at Catholic Charities helping to settle refugees. Janet assisted her county during the Covid crisis and was a volunteer with Richmond Virginia Tourism.
Janet deeply loved her family and friends, enjoyed traveling, reading, the beach, volleyball, photography, writing, and helping others. She will be greatly missed and always lovingly remembered.
