J.R. was born in Eldon, to Everett Richard and Hildred (Quinn) Uber on Jan. 22, 1934. On Dec. 13, 1953 he married his high school sweetheart, Thelma Serena Uber, in Eldon. After he graduated from Eldon High School, he then joined the United States Navy and served four years, mostly in Japan.

J.R. was known for his easy going personality, always the same happy guy with his infectious laugh, incredible work ethic and sharp wit. He was well liked and admired by his friends, co-workers and bowling team-mates as well. He has always been an avid bowler, bowling at least twice a week for the past 50+ years finishing up his last season this past May 2022. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, genealogy and was an expert craftsman. He was a loving, devoted husband, Dad and PaPa. Always supportive, keeping busy and on the go.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and grandparents.

J.R. is survived by his wife of 68 years Serena Uber; one son, E.R. Uber (Ginny) of Chandler, Ariz.; one daughter, Cindy Phipps (Bernie) of Mexico; four grandchildren, Allison (Brad)Nicholson of Phoenix, Ariz.; McKenzie Uber of Chandler, Ariz.; Travis (Robyn) Phipps of Mexico; Lindsey (Corey) Poteet of Brentwood; and three great granddaughters, Beckett and Logan Phipps of Mexico; and Nora Nicholson of Phoenix, Ariz.; and one sister, Lois Wilson (Jack) of Jefferson City.

J.R.’s family wishes to extend their thanks to all the friends and family that have sent cards and offered up prayers on our behalf. A special thank you to Gold Crest Distributing for their many cards, phone calls and visits. Dad often said it was the best job he ever had. I truly believe he had a great many friends there by their show of support in any and all areas we needed them.

Memorials in his name are suggested to the Phoenix Children’s Hospital.

Arrangements are under the direction and care of Phillips Funeral Home of Eldon.
