Kingdom Telephone will bring high-speed internet to local rural areas with multi-million-dollar grant

Over twenty three million dollars was awarded to the Kingdom Telephone Company from the United States Department of Agriculture as part of a grant in order to install fiber internet in Audrain, Boone and Callaway, and Montgomery counties.

According to Kingdom Telephone CEO-Renee Reeter, the total cost of the project is estimated at over thirty million dollars. The grant money will cover most of it and Kingdom Telephone will cover the rest. The grant money awarded to Kingdom Telephone is part of $58 million awarded to programs in the state of Missouri.

Kingdom Telephone was awarded a grant last year to install in  rural area near Mexico, however the company has been unable to get that project underway yet. According to a spokesperson for Kingdom Telephone the construction on that project has been on hold due the Osage Nation Tribe holding up environmental clearance on it. According to the company an archeologist has been hired to do some work and  they are now waiting on the USDA to give them environmental clearance. According to Kingdom Telephone the hope is for the project near Mexico to be done in a year to 18 months following environmental clearance.

The project planned for Audrain, Boone, Callaway, and Montgomery counties might take up to five years once Kingdom Telephone receives environmental clearance according to the company.
