The Mexico girls started their Warrenton tournament strong on Wednesday.
The Lady Bulldogs were playing in the consolation bracket despite not playing a game earlier this week due to winter weather since they were the lower seed at fifth in the planned first-round game with No. 4 seed Francis Howell North. Still, they showed there wasn't any rust with a 59-28 victory over Miller Career Academy (2-7).
Head coach Makenzie Mudd was proud of Mexico's teamwork and energy after not having a normal routine for the previous two days, which involved not having school because of the weather.
"We were able to work in a lot of players for different lineups," Mudd said. "I loved the team dynamic that we showed throughout the game."
Claire Hudson led Mexico (6-9) with 24 points, Jo Thurman followed with 12 points and Grace Hudson had 10 points.
Mexico faces Class 5 Hazelwood East (3-1) at 5:30 p.m. today.
