The Community R-VI Lady Trojans faced a rapid-firing Sturgeon Tuesday night. The Bulldogs came out strong, holding a 16-13 lead after one quarter.
But the Lady Trojans offense locked and loaded, firing for 26 second-quarter - and 23 third-quarter - points in a 74-39 win.
After scoring 16 points in the first quarter, Sturgeon was held to 13 points for the entire second half.
Welch finished with a double-double, scoring 27 points and corralling 10 rebounds. Angel had 22 points and added 4 steals. Clark had 10 points.
Sturgeon came out on fire connecting on 8-for-10 field goals in the first quarter.
“They shot it well and broke our pressure really well in the first eight minutes,” Curtis said
Then came R-VI’s answer in the second.
“We really raised our level of play, scoring 49 in the second and third quarters,” Curtis said.
With the win, the Lady Trojans improve to 6-1 overall with a 3-0 CAC record.
Other recent wins for the Lady Trojans came with a lopsided 58-15 win over Slater last Friday, having dispatched of Madison 51-11 earlier in the week.
