Ladybirds patient in 59-50 win over Hermann
The North Callaway girls are headed to the championship game.
The Ladybirds defeated Hermann 59-50 on Thursday at the South Callaway tournament to earn the right to play for the championship at 4 p.m. Saturday.
Head coach Andrew Klein said North Callaway ( was "very patient and got good looks," and three Ladybirds finished with five assists. Abrielle Burgher, Riley Blevins and Natalie Shryock each had five assists.
Lakyn Hartley led North Callaway (10-4) for the second straight game with 18 points and nine rebounds, Burgher had 15 points and 10 rebounds, Blevins finished with 13 points, five steals and a season-high four blocks, and Shryock added eight points.
Hermann (8-5) tried its best to come back with its biggest quarter being the fourth that contained five 3-pointers. Ava Hughes led the Lady Bearcats with 21 points and three 3-pointers.
North Callaway plays Eastern Missouri Conference foe and Class 3 No. 3 Montgomery County (12-1) at 4 p.m. Saturday.
Thunderbirds outscored in fourth, lose again to New Bloomfield 53-51
The North Callaway boys have had a rough last few games.
The Thunderbirds had their losing streak extended to six games after a 53-51 loss to New Bloomfield on Thursday in the South Callaway tournament, but it was also their third loss in four games where they had the lead late in the game. North Callaway has lost to New Bloomfield twice in this way during this stretch.
North Callaway (3-10) was outscored 16-9 in the fourth quarter and had its final shot from about 10 feet not go down. Isiah Craighead didn't play again with an injury.
Sam Pezold led the Thunderbirds with 13 points, eight rebounds, six assists and three steals, Erik Blair followed with 12 points, Clayton Moore had 10 points and 12 rebounds, and CJ Cunningham had six assists.
Jake Fuhriman led New Bloomfield (6-9) with 23 points.
North Callaway plays Wednesday against Russellville (1-13).
