Some students at Mexico High School will have debt relief thanks to First State Community Bank (FSCB).
Last week, the bank donated $800 to the Mexico School District to help pay down the more than $2,600 in debt students owed for lunches. According to the district, FSCB has donated toward the debt for the past three years.
"We believe in making an impact in our community,” said Sarah Mahnken with FSCB. “When our committee sat down to choose a recipient, we felt it was important for us to support the students in our community and also provide resources for food insecurity.”
Mexico Public Schools Food Services Director Joyce Fenner accepted the donation on behalf of the district. Students in the Kindergarten through eighth-grade level receive lunches for free through a state grant.
