North Callaway High School hosts Decision Day

Posted

North Callaway High School hosted their Decision Day on May 1, an event organized by their college and career advisor, Stephanie Horstmeier.  This event celebrated 67 high school seniors and they each announced their plans following graduation, which ranged from enrolling in college, undertaking technical training, heading to the workforce and enlisting in the military. Superintendent, Kenya Thompson kicked off the celebration with a message to the graduating class.

Seniors celebrated the occasion after their signings by playing games, having a prize raffle, finishing the senior display and having fun at the photo booth. Each senior received a Thunderbird alumni t-shirt and adopted a senior gift from  North Callaway staff members. Lunch was provided by the Army National Guard and seniors enjoyed pizza and desserts.  Desserts were donated by two local churches, Auxvasse Christian and Presbyterian churches.

Decision Day also serves as an occasion to reflect on North Callaway School’s two years with rootEd Missouri, a public-private partnership that helps rural students define and plan their paths to achieve career success and economic stability. The initiative places dedicated college and career counselors, called rootEd advisors, in rural schools to work with all students, and is designed to help address the unique challenges related to awareness and access to opportunities that students in rural communities often face.
