Local charity puts needy children in new beds

Posted

You may not know about it, but there is a charitable organization operating in Audrain County with the specific purpose of providing needy families with beds and the related bedding.

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is a world-wide organization that was originally established in the 1600’s.  It currently has over 690,000 active members in 142 countries.  A local conference was established in Mexico, Missouri in 2014 by members of the St. Brendan Catholic Church.

Local conferences are financially independent and operate through donations from individuals, charitable trusts and churches such as St. Brendan.  The individual conferences have autonomy to select a specific area of focus for their charitable efforts.

In Audrain County, the local conference chose its focus to provide new beds to the needy families. Since the local conference’s inception in 2014, over 600 beds have been delivered by local St. Vincent de Paul members to needy families in Audrain County.Families are selected to receive the beds after asking for help by contacting the St. Vincent de Paul hotline and subsequently agreeing to a home visit by a St. Vincent de Paul volunteer to verify the need.

If you or someone you know is in financial hardship and needs beds for their family, you can contact St. Vincent de Paul at 573-581-4720 and leave a message with your request along with a contact number.  A volunteer will subsequently touch base to discuss your situation and set up a home visit. All information remains confidential.
