Lou Jane Malott, 83, of Mexico, passed away at 5:15 p.m. Wednesday, March 1, 2023, at University Hospital in Columbia.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 4, at Pickering Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Kennemore officiating. Burial will follow in Lick Creek Cemetery, Perry.

Visitation will be Saturday from noon until service time at the funeral home.

Lou was born on Aug. 11, 1939, in Floyd County, Kentucky. She was the daughter of Troy and Anna Mae (Thacker) Layne. On Dec. 22, 1962, in Troy, Ohio, she married Herbert Dewayne Malott Sr. who preceded her in death on July 6, 1985.

Lou worked for many years with General Motors. She also worked for AB Chance and after she retired she did in-home caregiving.

She was involved in the Mexico Quilt Guild, she was a life member of NRA, and she volunteered and was active at the Mexico Senior Center. She was an avid hunter of turkey and deer, and she assisted with the Missouri Conservation Department hunts for hunters with disabilities each year at Indian Creek.

Survivors include one son, Herbert “Wayne” Malott (Lachelle), of Kansas City; two daughters, Linda Malott, of Mexico, and Lisa Hulett (Kris), of Columbia; six grandchildren, A.J. Malott (Kristy), Michael Burgeson (Kristina), Zach Malott (Jamie), Dakota Malott (Samantha), Levi Malott (Kelsey), and Blake Anderson; 11 great-grandchildren, Cooper, Jude, Cinder, Scarlett, Ada, Emily, Noah, Violet, and Grace Malott, Michael Burgeson Jr., and Kayziah Burgeson; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, and two sisters, Lois Gilbert, and Mildred McNamara.

Memorials may be given to the Mexico Senior Center. They may be sent in care of Pickering Funeral Home, 403 N. Western, Mexico, MO 65265.
