The city of Mexico won the 2025 Missouri Arts Council Award for Creative Community during Arts Day at the Capitol Wednesday, Feb. 5.
Mayor Vicki Briggs accepted the award, which was a special road sign, on the city’s behalf.
“Mexico is a small community, located about 37 miles northeast of Columbia, Missouri,” says Briggs in her acceptance speech. “We are, in fact, a small town, but the arts are alive and well in our community.”
The afternoon began in the Capitol rotunda with an opening speech by Arts Council Chair Sharon Beshore who introduced Lt. Gov. David Wasinger, Missouri Arts Council Executive Director Michael Donovan and Vice-chair Lois Brace.
Beshore and Lt. Gov. Wasinger presented the other Arts Awards recipients with glass awards created by artist Wanda Tyner of Lee’s Summit.
