Mexico Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Dana Keller was almost a thousand miles away from Mexico this week picking up an award and speaking at the National Association of Development Organizations Annual Training Conference held in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
The Mexico Area Chamber of Commerce recieved a NADO Impact Award for their successful Workforce Resource Assistance Program (WRAP).
Keller says "The pilot program got started in 2021 thanks to a grant from the Mark Twain Regional Council of Governments. The Mexico Chamber of Commerce hired Darlene Shopher as a workforce specialist. She worked with employees from four area businesses including Fluid Power Support, True Manufacturing, Spartan and Goldcrest. During that time Shopher secured a $20,000 grant from FENRA that helps provide financial support to employees. The program has been so successful a second Workforce Specialist Jane Coatsworth has been added at the Mexico Chamber of Commerce."
Keller resresented the Mark Twain Regional Council of Governments at the conference where 450 people attended from all over the United States and Canada.
