The big senior class for Mexico boys soccer is near the end of its career.
Mexico recognized its seven seniors — Oscar Alvarez-Zapot, Braiden Bock, Nate Galloway, Jonathan Hernandez-Rodriguez, Darwin Mena Lopez, Carlos Rodriguez-Hernandez and Wyatt Wilson — prior to its 1-0 loss to Wright City (8-13) on Oct. 20 on Chris Hotop Field in Mexico. It is the second 1-0 loss to Wright City this season after the first one happened a month prior in the Warrior Classic Soccer Tournament in Winfield.
In Mexico’s crosstown matchup with Missouri Military Academy (7-9), the Bulldogs (2-19) lost 4-1 on Chris Hotop Field. Alvarez-Zapot scored Mexico’s goal while MMA had a hat trick from John Shadonix and one goal from Leonardo Morales. Sebastian Silva and Alan Alexandrei II had assists for MMA, and Eric Shellabarger had 11 steals.
Mexico had lost eight straight games going into its season finale Monday at Canton (3-11). The Bulldogs begin hosting the Class 2 District 5 tournament on Saturday and play Moberly (15-8) at noon, and MMA plays in the same district against Fulton (9-5) at 10 a.m.
