Mexico couple becomes foster parents

Posted

Tony Senor and his wife Erin have wanted children for years and recently decided to take a big step to make that dream come true.

Coach Senor, Mr. Senor, most folks call him Tony is a Social Studies Teacher at the Mexico High School. He also is the head coach of the MHS and Mexico Middle School girls wrestling team,  and head coach of the MHS Boys Tennis Team.

He and Erin serve at the Victory Christian Fellowship Church in Mexico around children and in youth ministry.

Erin does case work at the Missouri Department of Corrections at the Women's Eastern Reception, Diagnostic and Correctional Center in Vandalia since 2008.

Tony says "We have centered our entire lives on kids. We were called to it and love kids. There is a great need for foster parents in Audrain County. There are only 11 families, with, on average, 80-100 kids in need of placement."

Erin and Tony started the process of becoming foster parents in the Spring of 2022. They were approached by a parent of one of Tony's wrestlers Stacey Shramek. Tony says "Stacey would share with us one of the greatest resources and advocates in this region for foster children and parents with Coyote Hill based out of Harrisburg, Missouri."

Coyote Hill trains, licenses, and supports foster families to be well equipped. Tony and Erin worked very close with Coyote Hill, going through the foster care/adoption process step-by-step. The Senors’ also worked with Mexico High School Alum of the class of 2011 Carley McCoy to help navigate all the paperwork, training, and home visits required to become licensed foster parents.

Tony says "The process can be overwhelming at first but if you tackle it piece by piece and little by little with an organization like Coyote Hill it can be very streamlined." Foster parents are required to do 27 hours of a foster parent class called the STARS program.

Tony and Erin are hoping they can adopt soon in the future and give some children their forever home.

Anyone interested in becoming a foster parent can contact Stacey Shramek, Children's Service Worker at the Audrain County Children's Division at 573-567-8508. And for more information about Coyote Hill, please contact Carley McCoy at 573-567-0355.
