Mexico defended its home courts and its streak against its arch rival on Wednesday.
The Lady Bulldogs defeated North Central Missouri Conference and district foe Fulton 5-4 in their final home dual at Fairgrounds Park Netplex this season. Mexico (7-11, 3-2 NCMC) won three singles matches and two doubles matches to extend its winning streak against Fulton (2-10, 1-4 NCMC) to 11 duals.
“We are living a bit on the edge finishing the match 5-4 once again,” head coach Kim Costley said. “It takes the whole team doing their part on nights like these. No. 1 and No. 2 doubles continue to provide a strong start each night out.”
No. 1 doubles of Lucy Gleeson and Claire Hudson won 8-3, and No. 2 doubles of Jyllian Whitworth and Reiley Walker won 8-4. In singles, Gleeson won 8-3, Hudson won 8-2 and Lea Hernandez-Sanchez won 8-6.
Mexico competed at the conference tournament in Fulton on Tuesday and will begin districts with the individual Class 1 District 4 Tournament on Oct. 11 in Hannibal. Team districts start Oct. 14.
