The Mexico girls welcomed back another wrestler after Matty Tolbert’s recent return.
Former state medalist Katie Bowen after almost two years away from competition in Mexico’s duals meet with Battle and Hickman at Battle in Columbia. Bowen finished 2-0 and so did the Lady Bulldogs as they defeated Battle 39-24 and Hickman 39-30 to move 12-1 in duals this season.
“It has almost been two years since she has wrestled, and it is an accomplishment for her to just be back on the mat competing,” head coach Tony Senor said. “She went 2-0 and it is very helpful to have her in the line up again to help win some matches.”
Bowen pinned her Hickman opponent and defeated Battle via a 10-8 decision. Her sister, Abby, also finished 2-0 with two first-period pinfalls, and Jashayla Johnson and Karisa Hayden each won two matches. Johnson won via pinfall and a 6-3 decision, and Hayden pinned both of her opponents.
Senor said Johnson and Alyssa Knight each had pinfalls that swung the Battle dual in Mexico’s favor, and Abby Bowen was helpful by going up from 135-pounds to 140 in one of her victories.
