The Missouri Welding Institute located in Nevada, MO recently invited 230 high school seniors from eight states to compete in welding.
Jack Wilburn, from the Mexico High School represented the Bulldogs and earned a third place plaque in the competition.
The day consisted of a twenty question written test on welding and then the hands-on portion.
"It was timed and I had to weld a four-inch pipe that had an insert in it in a 5a position and welded vertical and it was eighteen inches off the ground," said Wilburn.
Jack was awarded almost six thousand dollars in scholarship money that day. He is planning on attending college for welding when he graduates from MHS in May, however has not made a decision on where he will be attending yet.
