Mexico High School and the Missouri Military Academy teamed up last week to offer local students a chance to explore future careers.

The event was held last Thursday, Sept. 21, at Mexico High School in the morning where more than 800 area high school students from Mexico, MMA, Community R-VI, Van-Far, and North Callaway attended the event. The event moved over to MMA’s campus later in the afternoon to bring the total number of students to more than 1,000.

The event featured about 60 different booths with different career paths for students to explore. Rebecca Moppin, the counselor at Mexico High School, said the event was unique in that it was a community effort.

“This event is one of many hosted by MHS focusing on a stronger workforce, both short term and long term, for our community,” Moppin said. “We are using a workforce development model that encourages developed post-high school paths for all students, regardless of their interests while at MHS.”

Planners are hoping the event continues to grow in the future.

We hope to expand and make Mexico a premier location for post-HS options looking to visit with our high school students,” Moopin said.
