MPSD responds to fire
On Wednesday, May 3, at approximately 10:51 a.m., the Mexico Public Safety Department (MPSD) responded to the 1500 block of N. Jefferson in reference to a structure fire. Responding personnel found flames coming from an unattached garage. The fire was contained and extinguished with the garage and a 1985 Chevrolet pick-up truck suffering significant damage. It was determined that a person was welding on the truck near the gas tank when some fumes ignited and started the fire. There were no injuries from the incident.
Juveniles arrested
On Saturday, May 6, at approximately 2:41 a.m.some alert residents called Mexico Public Safety about suspicious activity in the 1400 block of W. Breckenridge. Responding officers located four Mexico juveniles, ages 13-16, who had apparently been involved in stealing a nearby truck and some of the contents inside the truck. The juveniles were turned over to their guardians as the investigation continues. The case will then be forwarded to the 12th Circuit Court Juvenile Division.
Grass fires reported
On Friday, May, 5, at approximately 10:49 p.m., MPSD responded to the area of US Highway 54 near the Audrain Rd. 815 underpass in reference to a grass fire. Responding personnel found about 1/10 of an acre of the MODOT right of way burning with the fire moving quickly towards a fence line and private property. The fire was contained and extinguished prior to reaching the private property.
On Sunday, May 7, at approximately 10:16 p.m.MPSD responded to the 1500 block of West Street in reference to a grass fire. Responding personnel found that a resident was burning some trash when the fire spread beyond her control. The fire was extinguished before any additional property was damaged.
There were no injuries from the events.
