Mexico plays for Emma

Mexico continues to play for Emma. The Lady Bulldogs lost to School of the Osage 5-0 at home on Tuesday night but made sure to take time to remember a teammate they lost two years ago.

Emma Azdell would have been a junior this season but passed away as a freshman. Shirts, that are mostly blue for Azdell's favorite color, have been sold to raise money for the Emma Azdell Scholarship Fund, which brought in $500 worth of donations, as announced by Azdell's father Jeremy on Tuesday night. He also said he intended on matching that amount so Azdell's memory lives on as the Lady Bulldogs play on.

Head coach Sarah Olson, whose first year as a Mexico assistant coincided with Azdell's freshman season, said her passion regardless of the score still resides within the Lady Bulldogs.

"She was just someone who just lit everyone up," Olson said. "She made everyone's day better. She cheered everyone on. In a game like this, she almost wouldn't even notice what (the score) was. You wouldn't be able to tell by the way she played. Being able to play in that spirit tonight is a big honor for us to be able to do."
