No injuries reported at the Missouri Veterans Home in Mexico on Wednesday, March 22, 2023.
Mexico Public Safety officers responded to the facility at 1 Veterans Way a little after 8 pm.
According to Mexico Public Chief Susan Rockett the scene was cleared relatively quickly. "There was no actual fire. Officers found a haze of smoke when they arrived and the residents were taken off the floor, until it was made safe."
Mexico Public Safety Major Brice Mesko says an initial investigation showed the smoke had to do with a heating unit in one of the rooms.
